GoDaddy drives me crazy. They are soooo blatantly sexist, it is PAINFUL. It's misogyny doesn't even really warrant a critique as I feel it is obvious and thus I don't want to waste my time. I am just amazed that more people aren't bothered by this.
(old superbowl commercial from 2009) The only woman in this commercial is a passive Asian woman in a short skirt serving the big boss man some tea. So Hyundai, you might have the car of the year, but put some women in your executive board rooms so they can maybe tell you that women care about more than just the number of cup holders a car has.
Feministing got me going on this one, and I posted a while ago about the print advertisement Dockers had as well ---->

These ads say "Men: you better start wearing the pants and having the power or bad bad things will happen." Normally I would talk about the female oppression involved in this, but really these ads are just really unfortunate, and make me sad for men. I mean, really, are men THAT insecure about their position in society that they have to create a call to all men to start "wearing the pants" again? I find that a lot of commercials and things of this nature see feminists (and women who stand up for themselves) as such:

And that is really unfortunate for men. Don't be so insecure! So here is MY call to men. When you put your pants on... don't put your scaredy pants on. Women won't bite you. Feminists don't hate you. All we really want is equal rights, so please don't be threatened. We are just like you. But with vaginas.
"Oh man... I know that was hard. Well done following all those stereotypes and getting through it! Heres some soap!"
".....what?"
Yet another "BE A MAN" Commercial. I suppose this is the Super Bowl we are picking on here... but its just getting annoying now. I think Jessica Valenti at Feministing says it best: "I will blame women for "making" me be a halfway decent human being. I will whine about having to do things like working, being considerate, and cleaning up after myself. And because I do all this, my unfortunate partner will be forced to listen to me insist that getting the kind of car I want is necessary for my penis' very life."
SSSSIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHH. Clearly the Wife's value is lower than that of some tires. Gah. The "wife" who looks more like a supermodel anyway, is not only told her life is less valuable than tires, she is quickly tossed out of the car with no consideration at all, and thrown to a bunch of creepy looking men in the rain. Not that consideration, sunshine, or decent looking men would have made the situation better, but give me a break.
A great interpretation posted on feministing: "The way for a man to regain his balls/spine, suggested the ad, was to get a Flo TV so that he could passively-aggressively watch his game while pointedly ignoring his wife on their outing while technically obeying her overbearing feminine demands he's powerless to resist openly. "
CHANGE OUT OF THAT SKIRT JASON! AND PUT ON YOUR SCAREDY PANTS BECAUSE THOSE FEMALES ARE GONNA GET CHA! You better watch you.
That DOVE comment pissed me off. SCREW DOVE. But, you know how I feel about Dove.
