Optimistic Feminist Fail and Sexy Firefighters.

So I have been really excited this week because one of my professors, Dr. Michael Karlberg, is presenting and participating at a UN convention on the status of women. He will be discussing Women in the media. I'm a proud student! Then I was reading about the convention on Feministing, which got me even more stoked!



So I am watching King 5 news this morning, and I hear

"Thousands of women converge on to Qwest Field...."

Inner monologue: "OH! They are going to have a mini WA section of the UN convention! That is so rad!" Lets just say I jumped to a hopeful, optimistic, feminist conclusion TOO soon.

"Thousands of women converge on to Qwest Field....to participate in this years 'Northwest Women's Show' that includes exhibitions about fashion and makeup and relationships."

SIGH.

This wouldn't be that big of deal to me normally, but I got SOOOO excited in my head, and then it was like the ultimate let down when I realized it was a convention that is like...a giant Cosmo magazine...in real life...minus the "Give him the best oral EVER!" Section. Seriously. Their website talks about fashion and makeup tips, and they also have a "sexy firemen show" where they prance hot firefighters around in "lounge wear from lovers package" GROSS. Seeing as how both of my Grandpas, my own father, my uncle, and two of my cousins are/were firefighters, I find the whole sexy firemen thing thoroughly creepy.
